Word Sprint

Word Sprint tips: time bonuses, short words and when to skip

Our Sprint starts with 90 seconds. Play at least 48 letter tiles to finish. Each valid word replaces the entire rack, so the next decision starts with new letters.

A short word can finish a row

Suppose five cells are filled and your rack contains C, A and T. CAT fills cells 6, 7 and 8. T covers cell 8's 2W square, so the letter total of 5 becomes 10 points before any quick-series bonus.

The three letters earn 6 seconds; completing that row earns another 5. The move offers 11 seconds, subject to the clock cap.

Check the next bonus square

If four cells are filled instead, CAT starts on cell 5, which is 2L. C becomes worth 6, so CAT scores 8 before any series bonus. Only seven cells are filled in total, so there is no completed-row time bonus yet.

The highlighted cell marks where the next word starts. A longer word is not automatically worth more than a shorter word on a useful premium.

Seven letters add a separate bonus

From TRACING on an empty track, enter TRACING. The I lands on cell 5's 2L square. The letter score is 1 + 1 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 11. Add 10 for the full rack: 21 points.

The word earns 14 seconds and does not finish the first eight-cell row. The quick-series bonus applies only after an earlier accepted word, when the next word is entered within eight seconds.

The timer stops growing at 120 seconds

If 118 seconds remain immediately before a move that offers 19 seconds, the clock reaches 120. Only 2 seconds are added. The move message shows the actual addition and mentions the cap.

You still receive the word's points. Finishing a timed run adds one point for each whole second remaining.

Learn from the review

The review revisits up to eight racks you received and lists some longer answers. Those suggestions compare word length, not every possible track score.

Untimed practice has no countdown and does not update your timed best. Play Word Sprint or use the Sprint button on the homepage.
