Change one letter, keep a word
Start from the word shown at the top. Change exactly one letter to make another four-letter word in the game's list. Keep doing this until you reach the destination. Rearranging letters or changing two letters is not a valid step. A word already in your current ladder cannot be used again.
A complete example
COLD → CORD → CARD → WARD → WARM. Each step changes one letter. This route takes four moves.
Compare your route
The reference route is the shortest path found through this game's common-word list. Your steps may also use words from the larger accepted list, so it is possible to beat the reference length. A shorter route is not necessarily possible through common words alone.
Undo and hints
Undo removes your last step. Hint suggests a next word along a route to the destination and records one hint. If that route returns to a word already in your ladder, the hint recommends Undo instead. Reveal route ends the attempt and shows one route from your current word. The destination changes between puzzles instead of always being the same word.
